Primarily, the SIG activities include monthly virtual meetings, where participants use this affinity space for social support and encouragement as they navigate academic life in Black female bodies. The SSWR 2026 theme aligns with how the Well-being of Black Women and Girls Special Interest Group centers racial equity and social justice when discussing, exploring and examining the experiences of Black women and girls in research. Further, as agents of change, attendees engage in rich discussions often named as valuable and supportive. We plan to use the SSWR conference meeting space to launch conversations about how to mobilize and harness the energy born from “The 92%”—the Black women who stood on the right side of history.
WBBWG SIG attendees can expect to engage in discussions about how the current sociopolitical context impacts their research endeavors; reflect on meaningful pivots and necessary redirections to advance social justice in research involving marginalized groups; and explore tangible strategies for how Black women can continue to support one another while confronting both implicit and explicit barriers in conducting research within today’s political climate. The WBBWG Special Interest Group is not affiliated with no other organization.
