I started the Neuroscience in Social Work SIG years ago, but significant advancements in collateral fields of biology, not soley neuroscience, are relevant for social work research agendas. The application and translation of research findings is also an important part of this SIG whereby members will have opportunity to learn techniques and understand how the findings can be translated for future studies and applied to practice. I would like the social work students in my Cell to Society Lab to partner with other graduate students and faculty around the country to develop a year-round method of communication and virtual meetings to continue the community beyond the SSWR meeting. Social work scholars who use these techniques seek community and the next generation of social work researchers have a whole assembly of tools to assess the health and wellbeing of populations across multiple settings and contexts. The "bio" part of the biopsychosocial model in social work will gain a deeper understanding and application through this SIG.
